AI demand to drive surge in public cloud spend to $5.6B

New Zealand organisations are expected to spend nearly $5.6 billion on public cloud services in 2026, an increase of 20.8 per cent from 2025, as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads accelerates.

Spending on infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) will see the largest growth (and is the largest spending category at $2.6 billion) with an increase of 27.2 per cent, followed by platform-as-a-service (PaaS) at 20.7 per cent, according to the latest forecast from Gartner.
