First Technology and Microsoft recently had the pleasure of hosting the annual Flux Trend briefing titled “The State We’re In”, which continues to serve as the definitive executive summary of our current global landscape and future direction.
Mindful optimism
Attendees gathered at the Century City Conference Centre on 8 November to explore the biggest trends reshaping our world. Just as it did last year, the briefing proved to be incredibly insightful, emphasising the importance of resilience and adaptability in these turbulent times.
Over the past three years, we have navigated significant challenges, including the economic aftershocks of the pandemic, volatile geopolitical climates, divisive politics, and accelerating climate change – all while witnessing the rise of transformative technologies like artificial intelligence.
Dion Chang, founder and CEO of Flux Trends, was our key speaker, sharing his expertise on the unexpected opportunities that emerge from large-scale changes. He articulated the concept of mindful optimism, emphasising that despite the polycrisis we face, there is an opportunity to reimagine the status quo and embrace innovative solutions.
South Africans have consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience, which was a central theme of our discussions. Dion contends, however, that although resilience is important, it won’t in itself lead to a brighter, more successful future. His analysis prompted thought-provoking discussions on how South African businesses can navigate these changes and thrive in an era marked by uncertainty.
Vibrant exchanges
The event concluded with a delightful breakfast, allowing participants to network and engage in meaningful conversations around Dion’s insights. The vibrant exchange of ideas among industry peers further enriched the experience, setting the tone for collaborative efforts going forward.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a success! Your participation contributed to a dynamic dialogue about our collective future, and we hope to see you at our future events.
For those who missed the opportunity to join us, stay tuned for upcoming engagements as we continue to explore these critical themes in greater depth.
